In the area of Facility and Operations Planning we can assist you in planning new facilities, adding to your current buildings, or renovating existing spaces. Our aim is to help you achieve your goals and to create attractive, functional and efficient spaces that work for your museum.

Heritage Center of the Ozarks, Springfield, Missouri. In this project Germann & Associates worked with the History Museum of Springfield and Greene County, Missouri, the Community Foundation of the Ozarks, Missouri State University and the Springfield-Greene County Public Library to envision a new institution. In the planned future scenario, the History Museum will greatly extend its geographical reach, its mission, collections, programs, physical plant, staff and budget to meet more ambitious goals as serving as a history, culture and heritage center for the 50,000 square mile Ozarks Plateau. Germann & Associates projected a staged growth and development process and stepped business models, and set out capital and operational costs for a decade into the future. Our Germann & Associates team planned for the creation of major permanent and temporary exhibit installations and archival storage and processing spaces.

Elmhurst Historical Museum, Elmhurst, Illinois (with Thompson Museum Consulting).
In this project we addressed issues of how to allocate and integrate the exhibits and programs of the client into a recently acquired, modern bank building that was across the lawn from the 1880s mansion where the museum headquartered. We recommended reorienting of both buildings to the parking lot they shared, relandscaping of the lot to visually connect the two structures, the allocation of exhibit and program efforts to the new building and a focus on domestic history, administration, special events and historic preservation for the 100-plus-year-old residence.

Curious Kids Museum, St.Joseph, Michigan.
In this project, the museum board and staff were concerned about nearly all aspects of museum operations. They were well-established and successful, so the museum was not in crisis mode. With a charge to assess the current situation and recommend action in all appropriate areas, Germann made recommendations on budget allocation, space utilization, museum store operations, staffing, programs and exhibits. Included were recommendations regarding where to place and connect a three-story addition to the existing building (an early 20th century library,) how to consolidate storage areas in the older building, and how to expand staff offices in the new addition.
