Who We Are

Germann & Associates provides services to museums in strategic planning, facilities and operations planning, interpretive planning, and exhibit and program development.

Principal Steve Germann has three decades of experience in museums large and small. Steve received bachelor's and master's degrees in history from Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio, and later earned a certificate in historical and archival administration, also from Wright State. He served as Director of Education for the Montgomery County Historical Society in Dayton before moving to positions as Museum Administrator for the Montana Historical Society, Helena, Montana; Director of the Alfred P. Sloan Museum, Flint, Michigan; and Director of the Henry Ford Museum, Dearborn, Michigan.

Through a network of associates with varied specialties, Germann and Associates can help you address issues and opportunities in nearly all facets of museum operations. Besides the specialties listed above, Gemann and Associates is eager to work with clients in the areas of visitor studies, marketing, and collections development, management and care.

We invite small museums, start-up organizations thinking of establishing a museum, and non-museum clients who wish to plan and build an exhibit as part of a building renovation or public relations effort, to contact us for information. For larger and more established museums, we feel that we have particular skills in working with museum staff. Our intent is to work as partners with adminstration and staff. Germann and Associates can supply skills that may not be regularly available because of budget constraints. We can also perform work that the museum staff are fully capable of, but are unable to do because of the press of everyday work duties.
